A South Shore Woman Spreads Warmth In Halifax

A small group from the South Shore is helping to keep homeless people in Halifax warm.

Seven young girls lead by Tara Atkins of Caledonia spent last weekend tying winter coats to telephone poles.

Each Jacket had a note attached offering it to anyone in need.

Atkins says it made an impact on the girls.

“This is exactly the reason we did this,” she says. “The people we handed these things to, they don’t have the winter clothing that we’re currently bundled up in and they finally grasped it in the end.”

She says she’d like to make the project bigger next year.

She’s hoping to collect donations and food gift cards to help spread the warmth even further.
