One of the most popular things to eat in the summer on the South Shore of Nova Scotia is a classic lobster roll. The South Shore of the province stretches from Peggy’s Cove to Clarks Harbour and there many, many delicious options to choose from all along the way.
Lobster season on the South Shore of Nova Scotia actually begins on the last Monday in November and ends May 31st every year. However even though the lobster season there ends just before the summer there is still plenty of lobster to be found as the season just moves to another section of the province.
A classic lobster roll in Nova Scotia essentially consists of a hotdog bun (preferably toasted), lobster, and mayo. Often there are additional addons like garlic butter, salt, pepper, green onion, celery, lettuce, etc. Lobster rolls at many restaurants typically have anywhere from 3-4oz of lobster meat on them but sometimes you can find even more. However you like them, keep it simple and it will be delicious.
In no particular order, here is a list of some of the great and delicious lobster rolls that you can find all up and down the South Shore as you explore this summer.

Peggy’s Cove – Tom’s Lobster Shack is known for their specialty lobster rolls, in fact they sell them four different ways. The classic, the cajun, a truffle lobster roll and a naked roll. If they are too busy also check out the lobster roll at the Sou’ Wester or Hunky Dory.

Lunenburg – Lunenburg has MANY options for lobster rolls. People’s top favourites include the Salt Shaker Deli that serves up nice delicious chunks of lobster on a house made brioche, a classic lobster roll on a hamburger bun topped with arugula at the South Shore Fish Shack and the Grand Banker served up on a tasty roll from the Boulangerie le Vendeene.

Rose Bay – Near to Lunenburg in Rose Bay you will find the Rose Bay General Store. The store is a small grocery, liquor store, bakery and restaurant. Not only do they serve a large and tasty lobster roll but they also have a gluten free lobster roll on the perfect gluten free bun from Schoolhouse Gluten free Gourmet.

Bridgewater – Waves Seafood and Grill in Bridgewater serves up an award winning lobster roll, literally. Their lobster roll won the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl roll-off competition in February 2026. This delicious lobster roll made with a roll from the nearby Weagles Bakery is topped with lobster boiled in butter. Drool.

Petite Riviere – Further along the South Shore you will find the small community of Petite Riviere home to Osprey’s Nest Public House. This charming small pub that often features great live music has a two time award winning lobster roll as well having also won the NSLC award not once but twice.
Barrington – Barrington, Nova Scotia is the lobster capital of Canada so of course there is a delicious place for a lobster roll. Captain Kat’s Lobster Shack is a favourite of locals and tourists alike and makes a tasty lobster roll. Also lobster roll-ff winners twice from the NSLC their roll is a toasted hotdog bun with spinach, lobster and mayo with a bit of celery and is quite delicious as well.
