Acadia Looking To Purchase Port Hawkesbury Radio Station

Acadia Broadcasting, the parent company of CKBW/Country 100.7 is looking to expand.

Acadia is seeking CRTC approval to acquire The Hawk, a radio station operating in Port Hawkesbury, from McEachern Broadcasting.

Chris Pearson, president of Acadia, says the Hawk shares similar values as their other stations.

“They live, work, and play in the communities that we operate in, very connected to the communities, a lot of them volunteers and not just well know because they’re on air … but also because of their involvement outside of their jobs,” says Pearson.

Pearson says there are ten full time employees at The Hawk and they have a news room just like all of Acadia’s stations.

Reporting local news is an important part of Acadia’s mandate says Pearson.

Acadia owns and operates 14 stations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Ontario.

If the Hawk is purchased, it will become one of four Nova Scotian stations under Acadia.

The purchase is still awaiting approval from the CRTC.
