An Idea Who’s Time Has Come

Let’s be honest. It’s not unusual for politicians to ignore things that most of us would be really happy to see dealt with. Maybe they don’t see them as a priority, maybe they see potential pitfalls if they actually do something, but they seem content to let some things drag on.

Most everyone hates the twice a year time change. Whether you would rather stay on standard time or daylight savings, they switch back and forth is what really tends to annoy people.

Saskatchewan has solved it by sticking to standard time. I think they picked the wrong one, but at least they picked one. And since they tend to have a lot of agricultural activities in that particular province, having the daylight earlier in the day might work for them.

I think daylight savings time overall fits the current style of our lives better, having more daylight in the evening. Yes, there would be a few weeks when it would be a bit dark in the morning, but that would pass quickly, and during the summer having the sun go down at 8:00 PM just seems wrong. So I’d prefer daylight savings.

But not having the change would be a good thing.

Ontario is currently looking at just that. It wasn’t the government. It actually started as a private members bill. Usually, private members bills die a quick death and are never heard from again, but this one is starting to look like it could actually pass. If it does, Ontario would stay on daylight savings time forever.

Maybe one of our Nova Scotia M.L.A.’s could do the same thing?

No more time change would be something a lot of people could get behind.
