The leader of the federal Conservative party is stepping down, Andrew Scheer informed his caucus of his decision this morning.
The news was made public during an announcement by Scheer at the House of Commons this morning.
He says following what has been the opportunity of a lifetime it is time to realign his focus.
“In order to chart the course ahead, this party needs someone who can give 100 percent to the efforts. After some conversations with my kids and loved ones I feel it was time to put my family first.”
Scheer says he will stay on in the role until a replacement is appointed.
