Annual Student Video Contest Is Aimed At School Bus Safety

It’s about the safety of the kids.

The annual School Bus Safety Video Contest is open to students grade primary to 12.

Trish Smith with the Nova Scotia School Boards Association says they’re trying to raise awareness around school bus safety, specifically when the bus’s stop arm is extended.

“We just need to continue to hammer away at this message until it becomes incredibly common knowledge that you do not pass a school bus when it is stopped.”

Smith also says most campaigns are more effective when younger groups are reached.

“We’re hoping that, by students being part of the message because they’re the ones trying to protect, they can deliver it even more effectively than we can to their parents, family members, friends, neighbours, etcetera.”

There are three categories for submission – elementary, junior and middle high school and high school.

The winner in each category will receive $500.

Anyone interested in submitting a video before the Nov. 26 deadline can find more information here.
