Anonymous donor gives $7.75 million to Yarmouth hospital project

An anonymous donor has contributed $7.75 million to support the redevelopment of the emergency department at Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation announced the donation Thursday, describing it as a transformational gift that will benefit patients and families throughout Yarmouth, Digby and Shelburne counties.

The foundation says the funding will support its upcoming emergency department campaign, which will focus on equipping and furnishing the new facility while also helping fund a CT scanner and MRI to improve emergency and diagnostic care close to home.

The emergency department redevelopment is expected to improve patient flow, modernize treatment spaces and incorporate advanced medical equipment needed to support emergency care.

Foundation Board Chair Ann Jones said the donation represents a significant early commitment to the project and reflects confidence in the vision for healthcare in the region.

The donation is the second major anonymous gift received by the foundation in recent years. In 2021, the organization received a record-setting anonymous donation of $22 million.

Foundation officials say they will share more information about the emergency department campaign and opportunities for community involvement in the months ahead.
