Auction For Pubnico Families Raises Over $42,000

An online auction has raised over $42,000 for the families of the four young victims of a fire in Pubnico Head.

Mary Lloy of Yarmouth started the auction on Facebook as a way to help the families.

Soon, the group grew to over 9,000 members, and over 300 items were being bid on.

Lloy thanks the many people who stepped forward and donated items.

“Everybody basically overbid on the item that they took. I still haven’t got my head around it, it’s just amazing what people have done.”

Lloy says she is a grandmother and a mother herself, and she can’t imagine what the families are going through.

“I thought any way to help them, to relieve any burden of stress at the time they have other things to deal with, if we could just help that way, it would do a world of good.”

She thanked those that have helped with the Facebook group, which can be found under the name ‘Helping Pubnico Families – Continues!’

Lloy says those who won the items can go to RBC or the Credit Union under the Pubnico Fire Relief Fund and donate.

The auction is one of dozens of fundraisers for the families.

Local lobster fishermen have been jumping into their live well’s and challenging other crews to do the same and donate $1,000.

Dennis Point Cafe in West Pubnico is donating all of their sales on Monday to the families as well.
