Two popular provincial beaches in western Nova Scotia remain closed for swimming following the latest round of water quality testing.
The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service says results received Wednesdayday afternoon for Port Maitland and Mavillette beaches came back poor.
They were closed on August 13 because the bacteria, enterococci, a bacteria found in mammal fecal matter, exceeded permissible levels.
Lifeguards will be present to advise people at the beaches not to swim.
Weather conditions, rainfall, tidal action and other factors can influence water quality.
The higher the water temperature, the faster the growth of bacteria.
Water quality results for Port Maitland and Mavillette Beach came back poor. The beaches will remain closed for swimming.
