Baillie Pushing Health-Care, Mental Health in Fall Session

The province’s PC leader says he plans to keep pushing issues like mental health and more doctors in rural Nova Scotia.

Jamie Baillie says his team of 17 MLAs are ready for the fall sitting of the legislature which begins Thursday.

The Liberals will announce their budget next week.

Baillie says he expects there will be changes from the pre-election budget announced in the spring.

“We had an election campaign and it was very clear that health-care was the number one issue. Doctors, in particular, big issue on the South Shore and other places. We’ll see if government got the message.”

Baillie hopes Premier Stephen McNeil will also voice his opinion over proposed income tax changes by the federal government.

He says the proposed changes will hit harder in Nova Scotia than any other place in the country.

“We have the worst doctor shortage, we have the most reliant economy on small business and we have the highest tax rates. We’re at the epicentre of these changes and that’s why it is so important that Premier McNeil work with me on this one so we can make our point as strong as possible, together.”

The PC Party launched a petition urging the premier to defend Nova Scotians.

Baillie says he will be bringing the petition to the legislature during the fall session.
