Bantam ‘AA’ Ice Sharks Travel To Yarmouth For Provincials

Yarmouth is hosting the Bantam ‘AA’ hockey provincials, which get underway today at the Mariners Centre.

It features seven of the top teams in Nova Scotia including the South Shore Ice Sharks, Bedford, Western Valley, Yarmouth, Glace Bay, Sackville and Cape Breton.

Sharks Assistant Coach Nick Yorston says the team needs to play their game.

“We’re a hard working team that moves the puck well. We’ve had the best goals against average and best defence in the league all season, so I think it’s going to take that much plus discipline; we have to stay out of the penalty box.”

The Sharks won the Mainland Hockey League title on their way to qualifying for provincials.

Yorston says it’s important for the team to stay disciplined.

“In a tournament like this, some teams can hurt you that way and you can lose hockey games because you’re spending too much time taking penalties but every game is going to be tough and our kids know that so they just have to work hard.”

The team plays their first game at 2 p.m today against Sackville.
