Big Brothers Big Sisters Of South Shore At Risk Of Closing

A difficult time has gotten worse for South Shore Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The agency needs to raise $30,000 in the next few months or they will have to close their doors.

Executive Director Vanessa Mossop says their financial situation has deteriorated over the past few years due to unsuccessful fundraising events.

She says revenue from fundraising events has not kept up with costs to run programs.

“We’re hoping our community will step up, be it with their own donation of even $10 or if they can come forth with an idea for a new fundraiser to help bring in some funds.”

One person has lost their job.

Also, over the weekend several hundred dollars worth of gift cards, cheques and cash were stolen from their business on King Street in Bridgewater.

“Walking into my office and seeing the little bit we had left, my heart is now shattered.”

The Bridgewater Police Service is investigating.

Mossop says they have set up a Go Fund Me page for people to donate.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has served the community for 31 years and supports roughly 50 kids in the South Shore.

The agency has fundraisers planned for February and March.
