Bird Survey Plagued By Fog But Registers Similar Results

Bird watchers are reporting consistent numbers in Queens and Shelburne counties.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada held its annual bird survey between Sable River and Port Mouton.

Over 2,000 birds were identified this year including the Canada goose and harlequin duck.

Twenty-three hundred birds were tracked in 2014.

Stewardship Coordinator, Doug van Hemessen, says weather conditions made it difficult.

“We just could not see as well and couldn’t see across every body of water like we used to. Some of those bays were a bit heavy with fog.”

van Hemessen says the single day survey didn’t raise any red flags with the bird population.

The results will be sent to eBird.ca for people to view.
