The new Black Loyalist Heritage Centre will be opening soon in Birchtown.
The old centre was destroyed by fire.
Shelburne Mayor Karen Mattatall says she’s had an inside look.
She’s impressed and says it will fill a large void in the community.
“They’re going to be able to have access to information that would not have been available. It should be a massive tourist attraction for everybody to teach everybody about the history.”
The Mayor also tells us the recent TV mini-series shot in Shelburne, The Book of Negroes, has revived interest in Black Loyalist history.
The centre will be officially opened June 6th.
