Blizzard Warning Cancels Classes Across South Shore

Classes are cancelled across the South Shore today due to a pending storm.

Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning, calling for roughly 30 centimetres of snow in Lunenburg, Queens, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties over the next 24 hours.

All South Shore and Tri-County School Board schools are closed today.

The Waldorf School in Blockhouse and Centre Scolaire De La Rive Sud in Cookville are also closed.

Meantime, Nova Scotia Community College campuses in Bridgewater, Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby have shut down as well.

In advance of the storm, Nova Scotia Power are preparing their line crew for potential outages. Employees have been out cutting branches near power lines in many areas of the province.

Upwards of 30 centimetres of snow is expected to hit southwestern Nova Scotia. High wind gusts could cause white out conditions and reduced visibility for drivers. Here’s the latest radar image showing the storm system making it’s way up the South Shore. The radar image provided by Environment Canada and last updated at 3:40 p.m.

Another five centimetres is expected on Tuesday morning before the storm system moves on. However, there’s still a chance of a few flurries on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
