Blockhouse Park Becoming A Reality

There will soon be a new reason to stop on the way from the 103 to Lunenburg.

Blockhouse Area Ratepayers Kinship are working on a park at the corner of Cornwall Road and highway 325.

BARK chairperson Robert Hyson says they want to give the community a gathering place.

“Hopefully it will become a stopping point for travellers. They’ll be able to stop there, look at a map, relax, have a lunch. As well as for locals who might want to just drop by.”

Hyson says support has been outstanding.

“We’ve got support from the municipal government and we’ve got support from the provincial government. As well, TIR (NS Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal) they have been instrumental in making this happen because it’s their property.”

Hyson says the ground has been levelled and topsoil and grass seed has been spread.

They hope to round out the first phase by getting plants in the ground and ringing the area with stones.

Hyson says the project will likely span a few years before their plan is fully realized.

When the park is complete in the next few years he’d like to see people use the picnic tables, walking paths and gardens as a place to grow their community.
