Bread price-fixing settlement payments are starting to roll out

If you signed up for the Canadian bread price-fixing class action, it’s time to start checking your inbox and bank account, payments are now beginning to go out.

Many claimants are reporting receiving around $49, though the exact amount can vary depending on how many valid claims were submitted.

Quick Refresher: What Was This About?

This settlement stems from a $500 million class action involving Loblaw Companies and its parent company, George Weston Limited.

They were accused of coordinating bread price increases over many years, which may have led Canadians to pay more for common grocery staples.

You can still read the FAQ from when the claim window was open.

If you submitted a claim, it means you confirmed that you:

  • Purchased packaged bread products in Canada
  • Between 2001 and 2021
  • For personal use (not resale)

Payments are being distributed in phases & processing times can vary so it may still take time for some claims to be finalized. Payments may come via e-transfer or other methods depending on your selection. With a nationwide settlement, payout timing won’t be the same for everyone but if you signed up, your money could be on the way!
