Bridgewater: Additional Pole Could Fly Rainbow Flag

Bridgewater is looking into building a fourth flag pole at the Aberdeen Road and Davison Drive monument to show support for community diversity. A request was received by the town to have the Rainbow Flag shown during Pride Week. Council wants to determine rules and regulations and how long it gets flown. Mayor David Walker believes it would speak to the town’s inclusiveness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and those questioning their sexual preference. He says, “If you’re part of that community, I would hope you would feel very, very positive wherever you see that flag in any community and the more communities is a recognition that our communities are very diverse, they are changing all the time and I think we want to be as welcoming as we can.” Walker says they have flown other flags at town hall but he is concerned that it wouldn’t be visible enough. Shelburne recently flew the Rainbow Flag for the first time in 231 years and Halifax is also heavily involved in Pride Week celebrations.
