Bridgewater Approve Credit Card Payment For Parking Tickets

Bridgewater is now accepting credit card payments for parking tickets. The town approved the initiative Monday night after a recommendation from the police department. The service charges would vary from 1.7 to 2.5 per cent depending how a person pays and would be covered by the town. Finance Director Dawn Kaizer says although it is an expense, she expects things would improve. She says, “To make it easier and more convenient for the public to pay their ticket and probably improve collections as well, just because it’s difficult for some people to get into town hall to pay the ticket.” People can either pay in person or over the phone. The town of Lunenburg also accepts Visa or Mastercard payments for parking tickets while the town of Mahone Bay and Region of Queens only accept cash, cheque or debit. Bridgewater Police issued almost 1,600 parking tickets from January to June this year, and 66 per cent of them have been paid.
