Bridgewater Author Recognized With Atlantic Book Award

A well known Bridgewater Author, Historian and retired Cape Breton University Professor, has been recognized for his work on Nova Scotia’s contributions to the Great War.

Dr. Brian Tennyson, who has spent the better part of 38 years teaching at Cape Breton University and has published numerous books on World War I from a mainly Nova Scotian and Canadian point of view, was one of 13 award recipients at a gala in Halifax earlier this month.

Tennyson’s latest book is entitled “Nova Scotia At War 1914-19” and was recently named the 2018 recipient of the Democracy 250 Atlantic Book Award in Halifax .

“It feels really good,” laughs Tennyson. “I wasn’t really expecting it so it was a bit of a surprise, it’s an honour obviously.”

Tennyson has a passion for history, especially local history and Nova Scotia’s contributions to the war effort and has penned a umber of books over the years.

“I”ve always been interested in the First World War for some reason, I think it’s tremendously important; the first World War really created the 20th and 21st Centuries,” notes Tennyson.

A total of 13 authors were recognized at this year’s Atlantic Book Awards.
