Bridgewater Bus Service To Launch September 25

A six month bus service begins in Bridgewater September 25.

The pilot project will be the town’s first transit system.

Mayor David Mitchell says the service will transform the lives of many people.

“People who have a car but perhaps the financial burden of owning a car is impacting their life. For those who don’t own a car and are currently struggling to get around the community, things like that this will have a huge impact.”

The bus will be free to use for the first two weeks until October 8.

Mitchell says they want people to get used to the bus.

“The best way to get people to do that, to try it, is to offer it free. Zero risk for people and they can see how it fits into their schedule.”

Single-use tickets will cost $2 while youth will be $1.50. There are also packages for 10 or 30 rides.

There are 24 stops on the route including the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, NSCC, Bridgewater Mall and South Shore Regional Hospital.

The bus is scheduled to operate from 6 a.m until 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. until 7 p.m Saturday and 9 a.m until 5 p.m on Sunday.

A full schedule can be found here .

A pre-launch party will be held September 24 in the Bridgewater Mall parking lot.
