Bridgewater Business Owner Convinces Town To Halt Riverside Pruning

The Town of Bridgewater has stopped all pruning along the Lahave River until new techniques can be put in place.

Rosemarie Lohnes, owner of Helping Nature Heal, says plants and trees have been clear cut by town staff for years.

She made her case to the town and was surprised by the positive response.

“Having the agree with us is power, right? That’s awesome,” she says, “and then to book us in for learning time with their staff so they have wisdom to feed back to people…This is going to be huge for sure, and I’m just so grateful that we have such a council that listens and responds accordingly.”

Lohnes says it isn’t just about beauty, the plants are important for the health of the river.

She’ll be showing staff techniques that will preserve both the plant-life and the view over the next few months.

Lohnes says using the new techniques, there could be healthy plant life along the river as early as this summer.
