Bridgewater Councillor Wants Scenic Route Signs On Highway 103

A Bridgewater councillor wants better signage directing travellers off highway 103 to “See the real Nova Scotia.”

Councillor Michael Graves proposed scenic route signs between Liverpool and St. Margaret’s Bay at Monday night’s town council meeting.

He referenced installations along highway 101 encouraging motorists to explore communities throughout the Annapolis Valley.

“I just think that the South Shore is a beautiful part of Nova Scotia, and I think that there are people that are missing out. I think there is so much more to see in Nova Scotia than that highway,” he says.

Graves says getting cars off the 103 could result in increased tourism revenue for local businesses.

“What we’re trying to do is just create an opportunity for randomness, so for people just to say ‘You know honey, I’m tired of this road, there’s a sign that says Take the Scenic Route, let’s check it out and see what we can find’,” he says.

The Provincial Government has already rejected the same proposal from Bluenose Coast Tourism, saying there are too many signs along the route.
