Drivers in Bridgewater may want to get their shopping done before this weekend.
The Town of Bridgewater will be upgrading the traffic lights at the intersection of LaHave St. and Old Bridge Street beginning Sunday.
For the next six weeks the intersection will be treated as a four-way stop.
Bridgewater Town Spokesperson Patrick Hirtle says it’s time for an upgrade.
“The lights at that intersection are 25 years old. The electronics were installed in 1994. And while they’ve served us really well during that time, the technology is outdated and the lights are getting near the end of their lifespan.”
Hirtle says drivers will see an a significant difference once construction is complete.
“New, modern lights are going into that intersection with traffic sensors and turning arrows. And it’s going to, basically, improve the traffic flow through that area and make it safer for motorists and pedestrians.”
Hirtle says the aim is to have the work completed now before the busy summer season kicks in.
