Bridgewater Girl Guides Looking For New Home

Bridgewater’s Girl Guides will need to find a new place to squirrel away their cookies.

The town owns the Guide’s cabin at 93 Dominion Street and at Monday night’s meeting, town council voted to sell it.

According to Mayor David Mitchell, the building will require $10,000 in capitol work each year for the next five to ten years.

He says the decision to sell was made after months of conversations with local and provincial Girl Guides representatives.

“It just became quite apparent that the costs were unsustainable and it didn’t make financial sense to keep the building. We have instructions from Girl Guides Canada’s lawyers to proceed with the sale of the building.”

Mitchell says some of the Guide groups have already found new space and council has committed to helping the rest relocate.
