Bridgewater: King Street Project $400,000 Over Budget

The Take Back the Riverbank project in Bridgewater is $400,000 over budget.

Planning Director Jessica MacDonald says unforeseen complications during the construction meant more money was required to get the job done.

“Because the parkade covered part of the site the consultants that did the design weren’t able to get the full picture, so there were some unknowns when they provided us with the preliminary cost estimates.”

MacDonald says the only way to have known about the complications in advance would be to do more expensive studies.

She says the original $5-million budget did include a small contingency but it was unable to cover the added costs.

No word on where those additional funds will come from, however, MacDonald says the increase was approved by council.
