Bridgewater’s Mayor just returned from Montreal where he got a look into the future.
David Mitchell was attending Michelin’s Moving On conference.
The event hosts representatives from towns and cities with Michelin plants to discuss how the company is evolving.

Mitchell had his eyes opened to new terms such as industry four point oh and circular economies.
“Circular Economy is make, use, repair, reuse, recycle. And Industry 4.0 is the four phases of the industrial revolution.”
Mitchell says the company is preparing for the fourth phase which will see machines replace human workers for many assembly jobs.
He says the Moving On event highlighted how the tire manufacturer is changing in a green economy.
“It’s so easy to think, ‘Well Michelin just makes tires’, but then you realize they’re so much more and they want to be part of our process of how we diversify our economy.”
Fantastic announcement and proud to have @Michelin in @TownBridgewater. It is great to be at #movinonconf2018 to see the future of mobility. https://t.co/znwsvitkez

Mitchell says he’s having talks with Michelin to establish their needs going forward and what the town can do to meet those.
He says as manufacturing relies more heavily on automation, it’s up to industry and the town to be ready to provide complimentary jobs.
