A 69-year-old man from Bridgewater has been charged with sexual assault. The charge stems back to an incident on August 29. The Bridgewater Police Service posted a picture to social media to help identify the suspect. Chief John Collyer says things like Facebook and Twitter have become useful resources for police. He says, “We’ve had some success with identifying the owner of a vehicle or in this particular case, an individual pictured in a still from a surveillance video and that’s been great. It’s added another tool in terms of trying to deal with some of our complaints.” He adds, public input on social media has been a big help, “The feedback they provide, in a number of ways, not just solving investigations or helping with furthering investigations, but also just giving us an idea of what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong.” Collyer says social media is rapidly changing but says it’s been a positive experience for town police.
