Bridgewater has its fourth heritage property. The town’s heritage advisory committee has approved status for the property at 106 St. Phillips Street. The home has been in the town since 1866 after it was built by David Walker. Chairperson Patrick Hirtle says the heritage designation marks a significant milestone. He says, “The Walker home on St. Phillips Street is particularly important for us as a committee because it represents the first private home that we’ve had ever registered as a heritage property in Bridgewater.” Roughly 40 people were on-hand at the DesBrisay Museum for the announcement including members of the Walker family. Other heritage properties include Brookside Cemetery, the Wile Carding Mill Museum and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Alexandra Avenue. Hirtle hopes the committee can target other heritage designations in the near future.
