There’s no need to be alarmed if you see smoke billowing from your lawn in Bridgewater between August 17 and August 21, it’s all part of scheduled testing by the town.
Smoke testing, as its called will be utilized to find small cracks in the wastewater system. The name might sound ominous but Audrey Buchanan the town’s Environmental Services Manager says it’s quite harmless, “It isn’t actually smoke at all it’s more like fog so it should be harmless to the system and residents in the area.”
Smoke testing is the most efficient way to test if the wastewater system is compromised according to Buchanan, “Cameras would be unable to pick up a lot of the micro-cracks were checking for and the other option, excavation is far more intrusive so this is the best option available to us.”
The town sent out a Facebook post outlining the finer details of the project, which includes information on who to contact if you have questions.
The testing will be administered by DesignPoint Engineering who have extensive experience in this field. They say the work is weather dependent so the actual testing dates are subject to change.
Bridgewater has released the areas which will be tested and they include Jubilee Road, streets south of Jubilee Road, and a small area in Greenwood. As the testing dates approach the town will be going door to door to notify residents when they can expect the tests to be conducted in their areas.
