Burg Classic Charity Hockey Tournament Helping Local Individuals

A charity hockey tournament is still accepting applications from people in need of financial support.

The Burg Classic is set to return March 28-31 for its 7th year in Lunenburg.

The tournament has raised over $100,000 in its first six years.

A member of the organizing committee, Kristi Strowbridge, says it feels good to support those who need a helping hand.

“It’s a true testament to community,” says Strowbridge.

“All of the proceeds are raised from local organizations and businesses who are willing to sponsor. There are also people who show up at the rink who are willing to donate to help someone else.”

Money is also raised through a community dance, silent auction and tournament participants.

Strowbridge adds it’s tough to classify who needs help but their focus is people dealing with a life-changing situation.

“It has been everything from folks who are dealing with a disease or physical challenge,” says Strowbridge.

“It’s been others who have been dealing with family challenges or life situations that came up unexpectedly.”

Applications can be sent through the Burg Classic Facebook page.
