Nova Scotia’s NDP has a new leader.
Gary Burrill was announced to the position following the party’s leadership convention on Saturday.
The 60 year-old received the most votes out of three candidates including Lenore Zann and Dave Wilson.
Burrill is a church minister and a former MLA for Colchester – Musquodoboit Valley.
He was among roughly two dozen New Democrats that lost their seat in the last provincial election.
Burill takes over the party leadership immediately from interim leader Maureen MacDonald.
Premier Stephen McNeil offered his congratulations to Burrill.
He says they won’t always agree on issues but adds, he respects Burrill’s decision to step up for the role.
