Canada Edges United States in First Leg of 65th International Dory Races

It was close but the Canadians held off the Americans to win the first leg of the 65th Annual International Dory Races.

The event was held over the weekend in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Canada secured victories in the junior, women’s and masters divisions but lost in the mixed and senior men’s one mile race.

Junior Division

Canada: John Ernst and Josh Bell – 5:53:09
United States: Anthony Sanfilippo and Robbie Horne – 6:29:41

Mixed Division

United States: 6:00:66
Canada: Gladys Collicut and Morgan Smith – 6:18:19

Women’s Division

Canada: Taylor and Danielle Dempsey – 6:39:81
United States: Alex Novello and Kristen Burnham – 6:50:91

Masters Division

Canada: Walter Nickerson and Willie Wells – 5:57:15 United States: Jimmy T and Rick Miles – 6:04:07

Senior Men’s 1 mile

United States: Mark and Nick Fiscal – 9:43:03
Canada: Brent and Todd Dempsey – 9:50:28

The second leg of the International Dory Races is scheduled for August 26 in Lunenburg Harbour.

Qualifying races will be held two weeks earlier.
