Canada Looks To Rebound In Second Leg Of International Dory Races

Redemption is on the mind of Canadian rowers in the second leg of the 64th International dory races.

The United States won the first leg 3-2 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Canadian Dory Racing President, Kelly George, believes the team needs to be mentally confident.

“Just mentally preparing for the race in all conditions and knowing that you’re physically capable but mentally preparing yourself to race the course.”

Meanwhile, Bill Edmonds, President of the Gloucester International Dory Racing team, agrees.

“It’s definitely a total mental game that you have to be totally prepared for every situation you’re going to be in and if you’re not mentally prepared, you are not going to win the race.”

Five races will be held in the mixed, women’s, junior, over 50 and senior men’s divisions.

The Canadian team features Evan Stoodley, MacKenzie Fraser, Gail Atkinson, Kath Moore, John Ernst, Josh Bell, Russell Atkinson, Fenton Cunningham, Joel George and Marcus Schmidt.

George is feeling confident in her team.

“I’m going five for five, I’m sweeping it. I think I’ve got good teams, I think they’re ready to go and I think we’re going to win five.”

Edmonds believes they are the team to beat.

“Your team, you know, Maritime people they’re going to be really good, they have a passion for the sport. But, I’m wagering on the Americans.”

Favourable conditions are expected with sunshine and a high of 25.

It starts at 10 a.m Saturday in Lunenburg Harbour.
