Canadians Victorious In International Dory Races

A dominant performance this weekend by Canada’s rowers at Lunenburg’s 66th annual International Dory Races.

The all-local squad captured three of four races from the rival Americans out of Gloucester Massachusetts.

Walter Nickerson and Willie Wells won the Over 50 division, Gail Atkinson and Kath Moore claimed the Womens and Robert Fox and Lisa Tanner captured the Mixed class.

Despite a valiant effort, Jason Mossman and Arthur Delaney fell to the Americans in the Senior Men’s race.

Kelly George, President of the Canadian Dory Racing Association says they’re wrapping up the summer season with a special event.

“We’re having a big fundraiser on the Bluenose. This is a first for us, but we’ve coordinated with them to do a sunset cruise and head out on the Lunenburg Harbour.”

George says money raised from that event will help the dory association travel to their races next year.

The Dory Racing Association encourages people to try out the sport at 6:30 any Monday night in Lunenburg Harbour.
