Cape Breton Mayor Drops By South Shore To Explore PC Leadership

A potential candidate for leader of the provincial PC party paid a visit to the South Shore.

The Mayor of Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Cecil Clarke is one of the likely candidates to replace outgoing leader Jamie Baillie.

He’s in the area to meet with municipal leaders and party faithful.

Clarke says he wants to hear what issues are top of mind for all Nova Scotians.

“There’s issues that are common around Nova Scotia. When I look at doctors shortages, when I look at Internet service and the reliability of it. When you look at the roads and the infrastructure. That’s a common theme. But there’s a disconnect in terms of how we provide that.”

Clarke says more needs to be done to support small communities.

“There used to be small schools. There used to be integrated classrooms and there was nothing wrong with that, and people were well educated. So, are those options people want to look at and I think that conversation needs to be had.”

Clarke says communities are facing similar challenges across the province.

And he will take in all he’s heard before deciding whether he will throw his hat in the ring.
