Captain Moreland Receives Top Honours From Peers.

The Captain of Lunenburg’s Picton Castle was awarded Tall Ships America’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Picton Castle’s voyage coordinator, Maggie Ostler says the award is given to those dedicated to sail training and nobody embodies that better than Captain Moreland.

“He spent his early years sailing in ships and schooners in Carribean. He worked in Europe on a sail training ship for a while called the Danmark. He’s worked in other various ships around the world,” said Ostler.

She says all of that experience culminated to create Lunenburg’s tall ship the Picton Castle.
Captain Moreland is currently sailing off Cape Verde, an island country off the coast of Africa.

The Picton Castle will make its way back to Lunenburg arriving sometime in mid-April.
