Chester Councillor Resigns

Voters in Chester can expect a fall election.

Second term councillor Andre Veinotte has resigned his Municipality of the District of Chester council seat citing personal reasons.

“I can’t give this position the time it really needs, so I want to step aside and give somebody else the chance to sit in the chair and make those decisions,” says Veinotte. “I think I made a few good changes. I wish I could’ve hung around a little longer. But life is unpredictable, so I had to change with it.”

Warden Allen Webber was surprised Veinotte resigned.

“It was a bit of a shock when he decided to step down, but it was for personal reasons and I respect that.”

Webber says Veinotte will be missed on council.

“He was dedicated and committed to what he believed. Even if it wasn’t particularly his cup of tea, he would support those things that he felt were in the best interests of the municipality overall, and work with his fellow councillors to accomplish what we could.”

A by-election date to replace Veinotte in District 1 will be set when council meets on Thursday.
