The Municipality of Chester has taken the next step to make sure a new wastewater treatment plant is built in Mill Cove.
Council approved hiring Hiltz and Seamone of Kentville to provide engineering services for almost $85,000.
The company will conduct a design review and prepare specifications.
The municipality’s budget includes replacing the plant which was built in 1967.
Warden Allen Webber says it’s time for the work to be done because it’s old infrastructure that needs to be brought up to modern standard.
He adds, the project has already received funding approval from the provincial and federal governments.
“It’s a time sensitive issue, it needs to be shovel ready and today is a step in making sure we can meet the target for the funding.”
The project is 75% funded by the Clean and Wastewater Fund and has to be complete by March 31, 2018.
It is estimated to cost $1.4-million.
The timelines states design work will occur over the next few months before a tender for construction is awarded in January.
The new facility is expected to be built by the end of next August.
