Chester-St.Margaret’s MLA Says Province Didn’t Treat Teachers Fairly

The MLA for Chester-St.Margaret’s says government has failed teachers.

Denise Peterson-Rafuse says the McNeil Liberals should have spent more time at the negotiating table before imposing a contract.

She is also concerned about the limits put on presentations at the Law Amendments Committee.

Peterson-Rafuse says that’s typical for this government.

“Whether or not you support a union and collective bargaining rights, this is the tip of the iceberg in how our province is being run.”

She feels a lack of leadership from government is causing a sense of chaos in the province.

Peterson-Rafuse is concerned that how the province has treated the teachers is going to impact upcoming negotiations with nurses and government employees.

“Ironically, this was the gentleman – the Premier – beforehand said that he was going to be cooperative and work together. We haven’t seen any of that whatsoever.”

Peterson-Rafuse says by not fully engaging with unions to strike a deal, government is failing to uphold the democratic process.
