Childhood Meals You Hated

I had to laugh when I read a recent news story about a certain food that is being stockpiled in the States during the pandemic. Seems people for no good reason are stocking up on cans of corn niblets.

However, every store with empty shelves of canned corn has hundreds of Creamed Corn cans!

When I was a kid I hated any of those many recipes that called for creamed corn.

Also could not stand peas. Possibly because as a kid on my grandparent’s farm we would pick peas in the garden and one time I ate more than I picked. Then I recreated the Linda Blair head turning scene from The Exorcist.

People of a certain age will remember our parent’s fixation with creamed anything on toast, tuna and salmon casseroles with crackers, those mystery meat cans of corned beef, klik, kam and spam, liver and onions, fish sticks and some version of corned beef and cabbage.

Now I like all those meals mentioned above although my wife Karen draws the line at making a tuna casserole. (I think she’s dealing with her own childhood demons from mealtime)

What meals from your childhood did you hate and do you like them now?
