The Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation will receive $16,000 to help two at-risk species; the common snapping turtle and Eastern Ribbonsnake.
The project aims to pinpoint threats to these species and their habitats, enlist volunteers to boost survey activity and sightings and collaborate with the general public to actively involve them in improving habitats and biodiversity.
The funding comes as part of $225,000 investment in 13 conservation initiatives from the province through the Habitat Conservation Fund. The fund is financed by hunters and trappers when they purchase wildlife habitat stamps, which are required to hunt, trap or snare in Nova Scotia.
Coastal Action is a non‐profit charitable organization that addresses the environmental concerns around the South Shore; the epicentre of the foundation’s work is within Lunenburg County. Coastal Action’s mission is to promote the restoration, enhancement, and conservation of our ecosystem through research, education, and action on the South Shore.
