Community Garden Continuing to Grow in Lunenburg

A Community Garden will continue to flourish and grow within the Town of Lunenburg.

The initial challenge centred around how to facilitate the garden while still having someone responsible and looking after the garden.

The Lunenburg Community Network, in partnership with the Town, stepped up to the plate after the former agreement came to an end.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says having it located on the grounds of the Lunenburg Academy reinforces the value of having a community public space and building.

“The community garden has been well underway for a number of years and so we’re happy to have that continue to operate and I think it work’s beautifully with the re-purposing of (Lunenburg Academy),” says Bailey. “It took some time, a number of years ago, to figure out how to facilitate that and still have someone responsible and still looking after it, and the Lunenburg Community Network stood up.”

Lunenburg Academy now houses a Music Performance School and is also the brand new home of the Lunenburg Public Library.

As for the Community Garden, it will remain a completely volunteer driven public open space in the heart of Lunenburg dedicated to gathering, sharing knowledge and connecting with community.
