The government’s wage legislation passed after a marathon session Friday morning.
It comes on the heels of three overnight sittings at midnight for MLA’s.
The NDP voted against it and tried to filibuster the bill.
“The Premier and the government picking fights with doctors is just about the most bone-headed thing a government can do,” said the NDP’s interim leader, Maureen MacDonald.
MacDonald said that doctors aren’t only people targeted. Aside from possibly losing their right to arbitrate, she said the provincial Liberals are also jeopardizing people’s standard of living.
“The cost of living has not frozen. Food bills continue to go up and they’ve taken the cap off of tuition if you’ve got kids.”
The legislation will only be forced if the provincial government thinks one of the bargaining units is heading to arbitration.
