The O’Regan’s Subaru Western Hurricanes lost 5-4 in overtime to the Joneljim Cougars.
The Hurricanes led 4-2 at one point in the third period.
But, the Cougars rallied with two goals to force the extra period then scored early in overtime to grab game one.
Brendan Amiro, Dominick Lowe, Ben Charles and Cole Spidle scored.
The best two out of three series shifts to Liverpool next Saturday.
