DNR Urging Caution In Dry, Hot Conditions

The forest protection officer in Nova Scotia is urging people on the South Shore and Tri-Counties to be careful when outdoors.

Jim Rudderham says it’s so dry in the woods, any little spark or even a cigarette butt could result in disaster.

He says it’s a tense time for his staff.

“It is very dry out there and if these fires take hold, they’re burning very hot and into the ground as well. They are very fast fires and conditions are very hot and very dry right now.”

Rudderham says there is rain in the forecast, but he’s not sure if it will be enough to significantly lower the risk of wildfires.

He says people need to respect the fire bans that are in place for everyone’s safety.

A ban on burning, campfires and the use of recreational fireworks is in place for all of mainland Nova Scotia.
