Don’t Blame Insurance Companies For Fake Office Trees

The Insurance Bureau of Canada says they aren’t being Grinchy when it comes to the office Christmas tree.

Many commercial buildings won’t allow natural trees in the workplace.

But IBC spokesperson Vanessa Barrasa says her organization is not behind the call for artificial trees.

“I would maybe suggest speaking to the commercial building itself. Is this some reason because of insurance? Are there people complaining [because] they have allergies? It could be anything.”

Barrasa says IBC doesn’t have any figures detailing if real Christmas trees are any more dangerous than artificial ones.

“We don’t have any evidence of that. We don’t have our members coming and saying this is a real issue; it’s something we need to tackle.”

Barrasa says the organization takes their policy cues from their members and at this point, no one has raised the issue.
