Early Childhood Educator Fired After Students Allowed To Play In Water

An Early Childhood Educator who allowed pre-primary students in Liverpool to take a dip in waist deep water has been fired.

Parents told our newsroom last week they spoke to the ECE with concerns after they saw footage of their children wading in the water in their winter coats but were brushed aside.

The ECE was the lead for the pre-primary program at Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy.

Scott Milner, Executive Director South Shore Regional Centre for Education says once the centre became aware, action was taken quickly.

“As soon as we became aware of it, we looked into it and interviewed the appropriate staff to make a determination,” says Milner. “The turn around on that decision was fairly swift and again that just speaks to how seriously we took this matter.”

Milner says staff are reviewing policies around outdoor play with South Shore ECEs.

Staff also met with parents at the elementary school to discuss what happened.

“The coordinator who looks after the program and the pre-primary facilitator and staff went to the school Friday to meet parents at the door and address any concerns,” says Milner.

Milner says they have a substitute in and a position will be posted.
