There was a whole lot of shaking going on during Canada Day – literally.

Residents in southwestern Nova Scotia reported feeling the earth move late Wednesday afternoon.

Natural Resources Canada later confirmed a 3.6 magnitude earthquake rolled through Yarmouth and Digby counties.

The quake hit just after 3:30 p.m.

The epicentre was offshore and located 60 kilometres west-southwest of Digby in the Gulf of Maine.

It was felt in Yarmouth, Clare, Digby, Pubnico and surrounding areas.

NRC says no damage was reported because the quake was not powerful.
