East Hants woman receives hefty fine for violating burn ban

A woman in East Hants has been fined nearly $29,000.

RCMP responded to a report of an illegal burn at a property on Highway 2 in Lantz on Friday afternoon.

It was burning unsupervised in a fire pit about 20 feet away from a wooded area.

Officers located a hose nearby and extinguished it.

A woman at the property claimed she didn’t know there was a province-wide burn ban.

The province upped fines for an illegal burn to $25,000 as wildfires raged on in Shelburne County and Tantallon last week.

You can’t light a fire within 1,000 feet of a wooded area.
